Help Open the Doors

A welcoming neighbourhood space for connection, care, and belonging.

A Neighbourhood House, Built by Neighbours

Arbutus Neighbourhood House is opening in response to a need identified by the community: a welcoming place where neighbours can connect, share, learn, and support one another close to home.

Neighbourhood Houses grow through relationships, shared care, and the everyday contributions of people who show up. While the vision is clear, the resources that bring a neighbourhood house to life aren’t fully funded at the start. They’re built over time, alongside the community.

As a brand-new neighbourhood house, we’re beginning with a building and a deep understanding of what it takes to support and build community. From there, many of the things that make a neighbourhood house feel warm, active, and welcoming — from programs and materials to the staffing that helps bring people together — are built gradually.

That’s where community support makes a real difference.

By contributing, whether once or over time, you’re helping turn a new building into a neighbourhood space where people can feel connected and at home from day one.

Founding Neighbours – Part of the Beginning

All first year supporters are Founding Neighbours.
Founding Neighbours are people who choose to support Arbutus Neighbourhood House during its first year – whether through a one-time or ongoing gift – helping establish a strong foundation rooted in community care.

Your Support Helps Us
Bring the Neighbourhood House to Life

Community support helps with the very real, practical pieces that bring the house to life and make connection possible, including:

  • Dishes, cookware, and serving supplies for hosting community meals and cooking programs
  • Toys, books, and play materials for family playtime and children’s programs
  • Art supplies for community art classes, creative workshops, and art-based wellness programs
  • Inclusive materials and small details that help ensure everyone – people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds – feels welcome, respected, and able to participate
  • Operational essentials – keeping the lights on, doors open, and spaces cared for – to ensure the house is a safe, welcoming, and inclusive space for our community
  • People and staff time to welcome neighbours, support volunteers, and work alongside the community so programs grow in inclusive, sustainable ways that respond to community needs and strengths

These are the behind-the-scenes pieces that help turn everyday moments into true connection – and how a neighbourhood house comes to life, with community support.
